Use UV mapping as default

I’m trying to understand the “Use UV mapping as default” option in Preferences. When enabled, should it set the mapping to UV when appling materials from the library? This is what I was hoping for when enabling it, but it doesn’t seem to do anything and still defaults to box mapping.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding the purpose of this option? Almost all of the models I use have UVs and I was hoping this would reduce some clicks when applying materials.

I believe the mapping type is stored inside the material settings, so if you are using a prebuilt material from the library it will use the mapping that was saved with that material.

this setting refers to when using new assets inside materials, such as dragging in image textures or creating new texture nodes in the MatGraph.

I was going to say the same as Matt did. I believe he’s correct there, unfortunately.

That makes sense. I was hoping I was missing something in the settings. Thanks to both of you for clarifying this!
